Recommended PHP configuration limits
On a very few hosts, like GoDaddy, Hostgator and 1&1 basic plan, you may meet some issues such as white screen, demo importing fails, empty page content and other similar issues are all related to low PHP configuration limits. The solution is to increase the PHP limits.
For example, the Memory Limit of these hosts is too low, approximately 40MB. In the official WordPress documentation is suggested at least to use 256MB, even if 128MB is sufficient to run our theme smoothly. You can increase/set any PHP parameter with GoDaddy create a new file named php.ini (if you already have php.ini edit the file) and add this line to that file(more tutorial). Wait a few minutes to take effect:
max_execution_time = 120
memory_limit = 128M
post_max_size = 64M
upload_max_filesize = 64M
max_input_time = 60
max_input_vars = 1560
Most of the shared hosting companies like GoDaddy and Bluehost are still using PHP5.X.X version and PHP5 requires php5.ini and .user.ini files. If you’re dealing with PHP5 server, please also create php5.ini and .user.ini files in the root directory. These files should contain the codes mentioned above.
You might also need to copy those 3 files (php.ini, php5.ini, .user.ini) to wp-admin directory in order to make the changes applied.
