How to write a standard post but still have featured image pop up on home page

Hello,

I want to write my posts as standard posts so that I can include a sidebar, however, the only way I am able to show the featured image on the home page is to set my post as a gallery post. Is there a way to write a post with a sidebar but also include a clickable image on the home page, which would lead to the post?

Thanks! For the masonry template on the home page, how do I add more space at the top before the pictures pop up? My header is too close to the pictures right now.
